The Stark County Manufacturing Workforce Development Partnership (SCMWDP) is an employer-led initiative designed to strengthen our local manufacturing workforce through training, education, and community collaboration.
At the heart of SCMWDP’s efforts is the WorkAdvance program—also known as Entry Level Learn and Earn (ELLE)—a comprehensive system that helps individuals prepare for and succeed in entry-level manufacturing careers. WorkAdvance includes grassroots outreach, foundational and technical skills training, barrier removal, job placement, and ongoing career coaching.
Since launching in 2021, the SCMWDP has helped more than 200 individuals, many of whom were unemployed or underemployed, begin rewarding careers in manufacturing. In addition, they provide incumbent worker training to help current employees upskill and advance in their careers, with access to state resources such as TechCred.
Beyond workforce training, SCMWDP actively promotes manufacturing career pathways in K–12 schools, inspiring the next generation to explore opportunities in this vital industry.
Manufacturing represents 15–18% of Stark County’s local GDP, making it essential to both the economy and the community’s long-term sustainability. By connecting residents with stable, well-paying jobs, SCMWDP is not only supporting local employers but also helping to reduce poverty and strengthen economic mobility in our region.
To date, the WorkAdvance program has enrolled 232 participants, with 201 completing training and 109 securing employment in manufacturing. Additionally, 106 individuals have received upskilling opportunities—connecting training and funding to help them achieve higher wages and career growth.
